About CYNNAL

CYNNAL was established back in 1996 by Cyngor Gwynedd and Ynys Môn County Council to provide support services for schools within the two authorities. CYNNAL was registered as a limited company under warranty, and management of the company in vested in a Board of Directors representing the two authorites and their schools.

CYNNAL's main objective is to provide support services to schools – curriculum support services, through a team of suject Advisors and Advisory Teachers, and information technology support services, through a team of computer and network technicians. The services are delivered by a series of Service Level Agreements, but this a synopsis of the two units.

Curriculum Support Unit

  • Provide bilingual training and support to the Gwynedd and Ynys Môn Education Authorities and their schools, to facilitate curricular and managment developments.
  • Support to schools by drafting and delivering a comprehensive In Service Training programme, aiming to fulfill both local and national priorities.
  • Facilitate the implementation the Authorities' Language Policies.
  • Support specific projects within primary and secondary schools, and accrediting school standards (in relation to National tests and tasks).
  • Support and coordinating networking arrangements within the area, to disseminate good practices.
  • Ensuring more effective and efficient use of SEN resources

ICT Support Unit

  • Sales and installation of computers and technical equipment.
  • Repair and maintenance of computers and technical equipment.
  • Network installation and support in schools.
  • Installation of interactive whiteboards and projectors.
  • Sales of MIS and educational programs/software.
  • Supporting the use of Management Information Systems in schools, ie the CAPITA-SIMS system.
  • Facilitating educational use of the internet, and developing interactive educational resources.
  • Training and workshops on the use of ICT for school administrative, technical and teaching staff.
  • Advising schools on the development of computer and information based systems.
  • Undertaking annual checks on portable electrical appliances, to ensure that they conform with legistative requirments.
