Near to the school there is 'The Old Coach House', a building used to store two grand hearses which were used for all the funerals in the area. Before using them the owner of the coal truck would brush his horses until their coats shone and cleaned their hooves with black polish. What a treat it was for the schoolchildren to look over the wall every Wednesday afternoon to see Captain Williams clean the hearses.
TheOld Coach House stood next to the school yard for many years until Mr.Gwyndaf Williams received planning permission to change it into a Chip Shop in February 1987. Mr. Williams served in the Welsh Guards before joining the police force. Mr. Williams left the force as a sergeant after 25 years service. The Chip Shop was opened on January 4th. 1988. One of Mr. Williams' granddaughters, Leah, still attends the school, and his wife, aunty Ceris, works in the school canteen.
After the closure of the Chip Shop, it was reopened as a Butchers Shop in 1995 by Mr. Wil Davies and still remains so today.
