James, Pwllcwarre, Llandissilio. Somewhere in France, Nov 1st 1917 Bear Brother Sister and Nephews I am exceedingly sorry I have left it so long before writing to you to acknowledge with thanks the safe arrival of parcel and letter. I received your parcel about three days before the letter I can assure you the Cigs were very acceptable as also was the case. But I don't quite understand your letter with regards to the Case whether Jos Davies sends the Case or only the Cigs in same. Please thank him very much for his kindness and tell him I shall drop him a few lines at first opportunity. I am very thankful to you for sending me Tommy Tyuchafs address I hope to be able to come across him some day but since I have been out here I have not happened to seen any one of the old boys from that district as i think it would be a great blessing for me to drop across some of them in this strange country and under these trying circumstances. I dont think I have any special news to write you this time. The weather out here is very changeable very cold in the evenings and mornings and been very wet these last few days up over our boots in muck we are not walking but simply wading through it. I was very sorry to hear that poor Will (Alfred) has been slightly wounded in action and so very suddenly after his return from leave but i sincerely trust that he will soon come over it. Shall now draw to a close with hoping these few lines will find you all quite well and happy the same as it leaves me at time of writing. Hoping to hear from you again
