Black Bart

Oh, I hate that Captain we have. That non-drinking, and non-gambling fool. He doesn’t even let us do piracy on a Sunday! Even though he keeps us in line, he doesn’t do any work. He just lies around like a dead body. All us pirates are terribly afraid of him. His name is the dreaded ‘Black Bart’.

I went up to the main deck and went on the lookout. It was a calm day with only a few snowy clouds in sight. The dangerous fireball in the sky was giving me sunburn. As I walked round the ship looking in every direction, I heard a voice. It was coming from a rather gloomy looking cabin. I approached it carefully and quietly. I opened the door about an inch, and peeped through the gap. It was quite damp and musty. I waited to see if they had noticed me, but they kept talking like parrots. I peeped round a bit more, and I saw who it was. It was John Williams, and oh no!! It was Black Bart as well! They were talking in hushed tones about something, but I couldn’t quite make out what they were saying. So I opened the door a bit wider, and it creaked a little. Black Bart looked over John’s shoulder, but I had already skipped away because of the creak.

We had sailed from the Caribbean to Africa, the light breeze blew in our faces as we worked like slaves. The water was calm and there were no waves in sight. Billy Jones was on lookout in the crows nest. He was quiet until he let out a cry of horror. He pointed west and we all looked. Suddenly there was a rush. Everyone were getting to the cannons, because exactly where Billy was pointing, was the H.M.S.Swallow closing in on us like a snake. The Swallow was Captain Ogle’s ship and we had had many encounters with him in the past. Everyone on our ship got ready to fire. We turned our ship side to side with the H.M.S Swallow and then they fired. We kept firing until we looked where Black Bart had got to, and then we saw him, he was lying on a cannon as still as ice.

Everyone was so shocked that they forgot to fire the cannons and came to see. We heard a thump! We looked around and saw Captain Ogles crew and himself upon the ship. I grabbed Black Barts Portuguese cross and slipped it in my pocket. Quietly I threw Black Bart overboard and joined the battle. But before I could take ten steps Captain Ogles arm came out of nowhere and threw me overboard. Luckily a piece of wood was sticking out by the bottom of the ship which they had fired at earlier. I hung on and checked to see if there was any wood under me and if there was anybody on the H.M.S.Swallow. I took a leap into the water and swam towards the Swallow. There were also pieces of wood sticking out of the Swallow. So I managed to climb up the wood and onto the deck. There were two navy officers with their backs to me. Quietly I grabbed some nails from the crumpled floor and threw them into the officers backs, they shredded their skin and they fell onto their bloody faces. I took their swords and pistols and ran around the ship. I didn't meet anyone until I reached the seventh cabin. I opened the cautiously and there stood three people.

As soon as I opened the door they stood up quickly and got their weapons out ready, but I was too quick for them and shot them. They shrieked as they fell to the floor. I ran onto the main deck and climbed the mast, pulled down the sails so that I could slow them down if they ever tried to chase after me. Having managed to do this in the heat of the battle across the way, I then proceeded to untie the ropes of one of the Swallow’s lifeboats. In all the smoke and fumes, no one would miss one small rowing boat, I thought quietly.

In the mass of smoke and the stench of death I made my escape and slowly but surely I left the scene of the dreaded battle behind. Slowly the ships became a small dot on the horizon as I lay back and thought of what had happened to me.

Here I am still drifting across the sea, and don't forget I've still got the Portuguese cross, this would be useful if ever I needed to bribe the crew of some other pirate ship.
